Northwestern could begin Picachos output early-2006 - Mexico
Published: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 13:40 (GMT -0400)

Toronto-based Northwestern Mineral Ventures (TSX-V: NWT) could begin " very small-scale" production at its Picachos silver-gold project in Mexico's Durango state early next year, non-executive chairman Wayne Beach told BNamericas.

Northwestern published results on Wednesday of a soil geochemical survey at Picachos' Los Cochis, El Toro and Guadalupe zones. The company expects to receive the results in August of a trenching program underway at Picachos.

Based on these results Northwestern will decide whether to begin a diamond drilling program at the property or to begin constructing adits instead.

Beach said his " gut feeling" is that the company will opt to construct adits at the property, which could allow the company to begin very small-scale production by next year's northern hemisphere spring.

The production rate would then be ramped over the next 2-3 years as property development becomes more advanced, according to Beach.

" I think that on the basis of what we've seen so far, we're seeing this widespread high-grade mineralization and the best thing to do is to go straight in with the adits and skip the drilling," he said.

In such a scenario Northwestern would carry out its own internal feasibility program rather than hiring independent consultants, he added.

LOS COCHIS, EL TORO, GUADALUPE

The results from the soil geochemical survey indicated that the Los Cochis zone is 1,000m x 600m and remains open to the northwest.

Los Cochis was defined by 177 soil samples with average metal concentrations of 23.3g/t silver, 8ppb gold, 946ppm lead and 832ppm zinc. Maximum values of 1,740g/t silver and 0.45g/t gold were reported from the area.

El Toro is approximately 2.5km x 2.0km and was defined by 274 soil samples with average metal concentrations of 8.2g/t silver, 55ppb gold, 431ppb lead and 332ppm zinc.

The Guadalupe area has a central core measuring 850m x 350m. It was defined by 48 samples with gold concentrations in soil of between 10-226ppb gold. Silver values in the core range from 3.3-19.1ppm.
