Cree quarterly profit surges 16%
Cree Inc. shares were down 7% at $31.70 in after-hours trading Thursday. After the closing bell, the company reported fiscal third-quarter net earnings of $24 million, or 31 cents a share, up 16% from $20.7 million, or 27 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue at the Durham, N.C.-based semiconductor component maker rose to $107.7 million from $95.8 million last year. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had forecast earnings of 26 cents a share on revenue of $107 million. For its fiscal fourth quarter, Cree is targeting earnings of 22 cents to 24 cents a share and revenue of $106 million to $110 million. Analysts are looking for earnings of 26 cents a share and revenue of $112 million.
