Internationalen Energieagentur (IEA), IEA-Chefökonom Fatih Birol im Interview mit dem Wirtschaftsmagazin „Capital“.
Die Importrechnung der EU für Öl werde 2012 auf einen Rekord von rund 500 Milliarden US-Dollar pro Jahr steigen.
Birol prognostizierte ein jahrelanges Hoch an den internationalen Rohöl-Märkten.
„Es ist nicht zu erwarten, dass die Kurse signifikant unter die jetzigen Niveaus fallen, es sei denn, wir erleben eine richtig tiefe Rezession.“ Der globale Verbrauch von derzeit 89 Millionen Fass (je 159 Liter) jeden Tag werde weiter steigen.
Eine Schlüsselrolle für den Weltmarkt wies der IEA-Chefvolkswirt dem Irak zu. Mit einigen Anstrengungen könne das Land seine gegenwärtige Förderung von drei Millionen Fass pro Tag in den kommenden fünf Jahren verdoppeln.
„Wenn der Irak seine Produktion nicht erheblich steigern kann, wird uns das allen große Probleme bereiten“, sagte Birol.

Global emissions of carbon-dioxide, or CO2, from fossil-fuel combustion hit a record high of
31.6 gigatonnes in 2011, according to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) preliminary estimates, an increase of one Gt, or 3.2 per cent from 2010.
Anteil an CO2-Emissionen (total energy-related CO2 emissions in 2011):
- coal 45 per cent
- oil (35 per cent)
- natural gas (20 per cent)
According to the vast majority of climatologists, the rapid rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because of industrialisation over the last 150 years has led to an increase in global average temperature by about 1 degree Celsius.
Carbon dioxide emissions in the United States fell by 1.7 per cent, or 92 megatonnes, in 2011, as more power companies switched to natural gas from coal and a mild winter reduced heating demand. Emissions in the United States have now fallen by 7.7 per cent since 2006, according to the IEA, which called it "the largest reduction of all countries or regions." The drop in US emissions is a result of lower petrol use and the move to gas from coal in the power sector.

CO2 emissions rose by 3.2 percent last year to 31.6 billion tonnes, preliminary estimates from the Paris-based IEA showed.
"When I look at this data,
the trend is perfectly in line with a temperature increase of 6 degrees Celsius (by 2050), which would have devastating consequences for the planet," Fatih Birol, IEA's chief economist told Reuters.
2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels (only possible if) emission levels are kept to around 44 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2020.
