Gold rises sharply on RTS

Gold hit a 2.5-week high on the RTS, having surged to $607 an ounce today. Gold prices have been on the rise since the opening, but have now begun to slide, though still staying above $600 an ounce. As of 4:00 p.m., the gold futures price for December delivery stood at $603.00 an ounce, 0.10 percent below the previous session's close. The spread on deals ranged between $601.60 and $607.00 an ounce. The sharp increase in the gold price on the RTS may be traced to the situation on the global market, where gold also beat some records. Trading activity in gold deals was high, with 330 December futures deals made since the opening against just shy of 550 transactions at Thursday's close. The trade volume has already exceeded 100m rubles (approx. $3.71m) against almost 182m rubles (approx. $6.76m) at the close of the previous session.
