Obama Wants Solar Power For Low-Income Housing

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - The White House on Tuesday unveiled a new plan to improve the access of solar energy power to low and middle-income families in order to cut energy costs, address climate change and promote clean energy.

The new initiative plans to unlock access to solar for the nearly 50 percent of households and business that are renters or do not have adequate roof space to install solar systems.

The program has set a goal to install 300 megawatts of renewable energy in federally subsidized housing. The administration also said it will make it easier for homeowners to borrow loans of up to $25,000 for solar power installations.

The government also plans to create good paying jobs. The new program has a goal to train 75,000 workers to enter the solar industry by 2020.
