Nordex USA is laying the groundwork for a 200MW wind farm in northern Ohio, writes reNews.
The turbine manufacturer and developer sketched out plans to build about 83 2.4MW turbines in Seneca and Sandusky counties in a preliminary filing to state regulators.
Nordex said it intends to file separate applications for the Republic wind farm, an 8-mile 138kV transmission line and two substations. Interconnection will be accomplished through PJM.
The company has leased about 15,000 acres of land. The site has been under development since 2009.
Both Seneca and Sandusky counties have been established as alternative energy zones, which reduces taxes levied on renewable energy generation to $9,000 per megawatt a year.
The Ohio Power Siting Board has agreed to grant three waivers from filing requirements to simplify the permitting process. Nordex is expected to submit an application for a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need in the coming weeks.
Nordex aims to begin construction by the second quarter of 2014. The Germany-based outfit expects to sell the completed project and stay on to provide operations and maintenance.
