Wall Street: Greenspan stützt den Dollar, aber nicht die Börse

Die US-Börsen zeigten sich am Dienstag nach einem schwachen Auftakt freundlich, wobei vor allem die Hightechs nach guten Nachrichten zulegen konnten. Der Dow-Jones-Index beendete den Tag mit einem Plus von 55 Zählern oder 0,5 Prozent auf 10 149 Punkten, die Nasdaq verbesserte sich um 33 Zähler oder 1,8 Prozent auf 1917 Punkte.

Eine lange erwartete Rede von Alan Greenspan hatte indes wenig Auswirkungen aus den Markt. Der Chef der amerikanischen Notenbank gibt sich erwartungsgemäß weiter optimistisch für die US-Konjunktur. Man sehe nach wie vor starkes Wachstum, so Greenspan in seiner halbjährlichen Rede vor dem Kongress, und müsse sich auf höhere Zinsen einstellen.

Eine anhaltend unterstützende Zinspolitik durch die Notenbank würde Inflation begünstigen, warnte der Fed-Chef. Zinsanhebungen sollten in einem „schrittweisen Tempo“ erfolgen, könnten aber auch unerwartet schnell implementiert werden, wenn das konjunkturell notwendig sei. Die schwachen Konjunkturdaten der vergangenen Wochen, wie beispielsweise die höheren Preise und sinkenden Verbraucherausgaben, sieht Greenspan nur als eine „vorrübergehende schwache Stelle“. Die allgemeinen Trends seien aber stark bis hinein in den Arbeitsmarkt, wo man „bemerkenswerte Gewinne“ gesehen habe.


Die schwachen Konjunkturdaten am Morgen schienen nach Greenspans Auftritt vergessen. Dabei ist die Zahl der Baubeginne ist im Juni um 8,5 Prozent zurückgegangen, nachdem der Index schon für den Mai ein Minus von 3 Prozent gezeigt hatte. Noch schlechter wird am Markt bewertet, dass auch die Zahl der Baugenehmigungen um 8,2 Prozent eingebrochen ist, was auf einen deutlichen Nachfragerückgang und langfristig Folgen deutet.
