Rambus quarterly income falls -

Rambus Inc. shares were down 3% at $45.39 in after-hours trading Wednesday. The company reported first-quarter net income of $1.82 million, or 2 cents a share, compared with net income of $4.44 million, or 4 cents a share, during the same period last year. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected per-share income of 7 cents. The company reported first-quarter revenue of $47.2 million, up from $39.6 million last year. Analysts were looking for a result of $47 million.




Kraft earnings soar on tax gain; revenue inches up 0.8%

Kraft Foods earned $1.01 billion, or 61 cents a share in the first quarter, an increase of more than 41% from the $713 million, or 42 cents, of the year-ago period. Excluding various charges and a onetime tax gain, the company would have earned 45 cents a share while revenue came in at $8.1 billion, up 0.8%. The average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson First Call had been for Kraft to earn 42 cents a share on revenue of $8.17 billion


Novellus Systems profit slips

Novellus Systems Inc. reported a first quarter profit Wednesday that fell slightly from the same period last year. Revenue for the period was $365.9 million compared to $339.7 million last year. Earnings for the quarter came in at $26.7 million, or 20 cents a share, compared to $30.5 million, or 22 cents a share, for last year. The company said profits excluding certain charges were $33.5 million, or 25 cents a share. Analysts were expecting a profit of 21 cents a share on revenue of $352.9 million, according to consensus estimates from Thomson First Call
