Die Nachricht, dass die japanische Softbank ihre Beteiligung an Yahoo Japan auf 42,4 Prozent reduzieren will, löste bei den Anteilen des Mutterkonzerns Gewinnmitnahmen aus. Nachdem die Yahoo-Aktie am vergangenen Freitag die charttechnische Hürde bei 20 Dollar überwinden konnte, ging es nun 4,5 Prozent auf 19,92 Dollar bergab. Yahoo ist mit 33,5 Prozent an Yahoo Japan beteiligt.

Mit einer Gewinnwarnung überraschte der PDA-Produzent Palm vor Handelsbeginn, worauf die Aktie 11 Prozent auf 10,32 Dollar absackte. Von einer schwachen Nachfrage nach Taschencomputern, Sonderbelastungen für weitere Restrukturierungen sowie Wertberichtigungen für eine Immobilie war die Rede. Nunmehr rechnet Palm mit einem Quartalsumsatz zwischen 205 und 210 Dollar. Bislang sollten 230 bis 250 Millionen Dollar durch die Bücher fließen. Eine neue Verlustprognose blieb der Konzern jedoch schuldig. Konkurrent Handspring verabschiedet sich mit 0,70 Dollar (- 1,4 Prozent).

Mit einem Kurssprung von 7,6 Prozent überraschte die skandalumwitterte Biotechschmiede Imclone. Zuvor hatte der deutsche Partner Merck KGaA mitgeteilt, in Jena für 300 Millionen eine Fabrik zur Produktion des Krebsmedikamentes "Erbitux" zu errichten, welches sich derzeit noch in der Entwicklung befindet. Dies deute auf große Fortschritte hin, meinten Investoren und zahlten 14,35 Dollar für die Imclone-Papiere.

Während der Logistik-Konzern FedEx nach einer Heraufstufung durch J.P. Morgan 1,8 Prozent auf 52,35 Dollar hinzugewann, profitierte Bristol-Myers (+ 0,1 Prozent auf 23,33 Dollar) von einem positivem Artikel im Anlegermagazin "Barron's". Darin wurde die Pharma-Aktie als "preiswert und mit einem faszinierendem Ausblick versehen" angepriesen. Bristol-Myers sei ein potentieller Übernahmekandidat, hieß es.
